What is love? - by M.J. Lineberry

Love. Poets and songwriters would would languish without it. Mankind would suffer without it.
People cannot help who they fall in love with. Consciously, or unconsciously, men and women believe love happens when they meet the right person. It is an emotion without equal and it affects the senses in ways that no other emotion does. It is euphoric and captivating. It makes you feel frivolous and lighthearted. It is a hunger filled. A need satisfied. A heart enraptured.
You cannot plan to fall in love, it just happens. It can make you feel like you are on top of the world, like everything is right with your world. When you're in love you can think of no one else. Love is said to take away a person's intelligence like nothing else in the world can - even the most sane, composed and intelligent person will act foolish when he or she is overwhelmed by this emotion called love.
Love is more than a feeling, it is a necessity. Everyone needs to be loved. First by our mothers and if we're lucky, by our fathers. In adolescence we tend to fall in and out of "puppy love" but really, that is just burgeoning hormones and crossed wires in our developing bodies.
Our brains are hardwired to procreate. So as adults, our bodies respond to commands from our brains, and our hearts seek out the most attractive mate for the job.
Doesn't sound very romantic, but romance does play a large part in it. Just like animals, we must prove our worth to our intended - "wine and dine" and put forth our best appearance to entice our love interests with a single goal in mind: to fall in love. (Well, most people do anyway. There are those out there who are just out for sex.)
Many people fall in love, get married and stay together for a life time. Whether they stay in love during all that time, only they know. Some people just get comfortable with each other, others would rather live in misery than to admit defeat, refuse to give in.
Some people fall very hard when they fall in love. And there are those who are simply in love for the excitement of the emotions and rewards of the conquest, they are in love with love. The hormones and emotions are so overwhelming that, like a drug addict, they want to remain in a state of ecstasy for a long time, until one day it hits them, the magic has worn off, they are no longer in love. It happens.
You cannot dissuade a person who is in love. You will only accomplish to turn that person against you, no matter what compelling argument or evidence you believe you have that their chosen is all wrong for them. Many people marry the wrong people all the time. That's why divorce lawyers are so rich. Give up, wish them luck and let the fates decide. Don't learn the hard way that a person in love will chose their mate over any and all, whether you believe it's to their advantage or not. It's their right to choose and ultimately their life to live.
May you find the love of your dreams. -- M.J. Lineberry

If you love something, set it free. If it comes back to you, it's yours. If it doesn't, it never was. We do not possess anything in this world, least of all other people. We only imagine that we do. Our friends, our lovers, our spouses, even our children are not ours; they belong only to themselves. Possessive and controlling friendships and relationships can be as harmful as neglect. - Alison Willcocks

Love is like water; We can fall in it. We can drown in it. And we can't live with out it. - Unknown
